Reader Gets AT&T To Admit It’s Their Towers That Suck, Not The iPhone

Melissa couldn’t get any reception around her home on her iPhone, despite living only 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. Zero bars. It wasn’t just annoying to always miss calls, it was also damaging her rental business. But thanks to a detailed, and snarky, email to the CEO of AT&T, she was able to get the wireless provider to reset its towers and fix the service around her house.

At first AT&T told her the problem was with her phone. All the problems would disappear once she upgraded from her iPhone 3G to an iPhone 4. She did, and they didn’t. Then AT&T tried to tell her that it was her car that was interfering with the signal. But she would step out of her car and there would still be low reception. Since she could drive to her parent’s remote lake house and have perfect reception, it really seemed like the problem was localized around her home. (If you have a low vulnerability to motion sickness, you can watch this shaky and blurry Flip cam video of Melissa having zero bars inside her house. The text on the screen, referring to the speed of the text messages, says “They go fast inside. Just can’t hear you.)

It wasn’t until she sent the following email to AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson that she got real action:

Dear Randall,

I know I said yesterday I would stop with the emails but today was not a good day for me and the iPhone 4. Also I would like to mention that I spoke with Katria this morning. I would like to say that the phone conversation was very pleasant, funny and very, very helpful. Seriously. I really mean that. She was very very helpful.

So here is what’s going on today. Maybe this will help your tech’s figure out the problem. Maybe there is actually a problem. I still believe it’s New York all over again where you had to stop selling them. The Apple store even said that but no one at AT&T will admit that.

loading1.jpgTaken in Munster, IN (25 miles from downtown Chicago). These are taken today and the time is CST. This was while sitting in my car outside. Maybe my car is at fault.

loading2.jpgYep, still in Munster IN in my car. Still won’t load. Again, maybe it’s my cars fault.

loading3.jpgWow, look it loaded finally. And hey, congrats to my brother on getting that barfly badge on yelp. I told him to add it to his resume. It shows commitment and follow through. BTW he posted that to his Facebook yesterday so really no new news. Still in Munster IN.

loading5.jpgStill in Munster IN. Still not updated. Still really proud of my brother. BTW he’s 25, I remember being 25. Good times.

notupdated.jpgWow, have to be connected to a network, that’s shocking! Still in Munster IN.

justgotmy.jpgNow please let me explain that the doctor is really not asking her to sample actual shit. It was pills to make her back feel better. I would never recommend a doctor that makes you sample that. Back in my home town of Whiting IN.

Also had a great call with my lawyer today at 12:29pm again I believe maybe Munster or Highland IN. They couldn’t hear me. BTW lawsuit has nothing to do with you. I was injured. I’m not suing. Just want my phone to work. Anyway, again, another important phone call while driving and THEY COULDN’T HEAR ME!

Also Randall, My cousin Amy who is not taking the what we talked about before came over last night and we put our iPhones side by side. She had sent me a text message that never came through. I was unable to take a picture of this. I’m going to suggest to Apple that their next new iPhone model can connect two of them together and some how take a picture. Randall, I suggest if they do make this product you only sell it on the moon. I believe they may have good reception there.

So here we go again. Another day, more lost calls and texts. But I just want you to know I sleep good at night that I upgraded and you got that money and I added internet to my second line and you get that money. I really really really hope you spend it on jet fuel to get around. That would mean a lot to me.

All My Love,

UNSATISFIED AT&T USER
Melissa

After she sent this out, AT&T called her to tell her the information in it had helped them diagnose the problem. They were going to reset several towers in her area. Melissa noticed a change. She had more than one bar on her phone and people were able to hear and understand what she said in phone conversations. Amazing! AT&T also credited her .99 for her troubles.

If Steve Jobs Had Been President Do You Think He Would Have Put Up With Congress and Their Shenanigans?

Steve-Jobs

When I say Shenanigans, I am referring to the inability of congress to do much of anything, except the bidding of “big business”, rather than the people that voted them into office. Just imagine that, if Steve Jobs had jumped into politics and became president, how different things on Capital Hill would have been.

Think about this for a moment.

I honestly believe that if Steve had political aspirations, ran for, and became president, congress would have sung a different tune and actually doing the job they were elected to do. Corporate lobbyists would have had a tough time in Washington, and I do believe that we would have a balanced budget. Steve, God rest his soul, would have taken control and ran our government like it should have been.

There would be no “pork” in bills created by congressional representatives, you can bet on that. We would not be spending trillions of dollars on useless wars in the name of oil interests, congress would not be using social security as a slush fund and Wall Street would not have been bailed out.

I do truly believe in my heart that if someone such as Steve Jobs or a likeminded individual were elected to the presidential office we would not be sitting in the middle of a double dip recession and worrying about where our next paycheck was coming from. Because people like Steve Jobs can changes things on a global scale.

Thank you Steve for all that you did while on this earth and I truly hope your legacy at Apple lives on. You touched me in many ways, and while I will never achieve what you did, you are still and forever will be an inspiration to me.

How do you get a consumer protecting agency to do their job?

Question by izzy o: How do you get a consumer protecting agency to do their job?
When presented a clear cut case of fraud, agency investigator looks instead for the way out of prosecuting. Looking the other way when he stated the was no doubt that the person’s testimony was a lie, but couldn’t do ANYTHING about it? This type of dismissal exposes a great many other consumers to an unlicensed crook. All this is contrary to the aggressive round up of unlicensed contractors, using ficticious names and other people’s licenses? When will a gov’t agency get a spine? How do lazy bureaucrats live with themselves?
Okay, that sounds so hostile. Question remains if an investigator (cslb) won’t give his findings to the consumer, without subpoena BUT only for a civil case, it immediately holds the consumer hostage to the mediation/arbitration scam. How does this help the consumer who was already presented evidence on a silver platter? The process is full of limitations for the consumer. The agency is no longer an advocate for the consumer when the value of damages was determined to be greater than the amount you can recover in the process. At that point, when the consumer is that damaged (per their own inspectors findings) the agency isn’t interested. It forces you into the courts, civil and criminal.

Women (and Men) Increasingly Hate Their Bodies — A New Movement Wants to Change That

BadBokeh (Tongue firmly planted in cheek)
poor

The title of this relates to an article I read some time ago by Ken Rockwell, www.kenrockwell.com/index.htm, in which he explains what is "Good Bokeh", I found it interesting because I happen to be one of those people that think the word good when describing a medium such as photography is subjective and even sometimes what is generally "bad" can be "good" every now and again, if you know what I mean. He even has a chart showing what "poor", "neutral" and "good" bokeh looks like, and I am proud to say I have achieved what I think he describes as "neutral" or "poor" bokeh. Yeah for me!!! :-) ))

In truth, I don’t disagree with him in looking at this image there is something a little too harsh in the blobs of light here. It certainly is not the "smooth and silky" kind of bokeh. But you know after drinking a few of those glasses of what is in the foreground, nothing was in focus, and that is clearly seen in this image (as nothing in the shot is clearly in focus), so I call the shot a success!! :-) )))

Here is a link to the entire story (which is a great read, seriously), www.kenrockwell.com/tech/bokeh.htm, and an excerpt is below.

"Bokeh describes the appearance, or "feel," of out-of-focus areas. Bokeh is not how far something is out-of-focus, bokeh is the character of whatever blur is there.

Unfortunately good bokeh doesn’t happen automatically in lens design. Perfect lenses render out-of-focus points of light as circles with sharp edges. Ideal bokeh would render each of these points as blurs, not hard-edged circles."

So I guess I have a good lens and a "neutral" or perhaps "poor" bokeh shot to show for it! All of this is posted in good spirits, hope it reads that way! Cheers!!! :-) )

HBW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone knows poor body image is a problem. A new movement wants to stop talking about it and do something to actually change our culture.

Wells Fargo Negotiates With Homeowner Who “Foreclosed” On Their Branch

Wells Fargo had a nice phone call this afternoon with the Goth homeowner who “foreclosed” on one of their local branches. “The sheriff’s sale will not be happening,” the Wells Fargo spokesperson told me with a laugh. “We are working with him towards a resolution that works for everyone.” She acknowledged that it should have never gotten to this point. “We should have called him before this.” Man: 1, Bank: 0.

How can a consumer know if their doubled paned windows are argon gas filled as advertised ?

Question by tysavage2001: How can a consumer know if their doubled paned windows are argon gas filled as advertised ?
How can a consumer know that the double paned windows they just had installed actually have the argon gas between the windows as advertised ? You can’t see the gas. How do you know if it is there ?

Best answer:

Answer by Bambi Berkowicz
You don’t know. You have to be able to trust people sometimes.

I’m sure that you could remove a window and bring it to a lab. Unfortunately, the window will be destroyed in the testing process, so you’ll pay for the lab as well as a new window.

Besides, does it really matter? I mean is there something more at stake her besides trust?

For Kids Who Celebrate Their First Thanksgiving At Age 2

Posted via email from Dando vueltas a lo de siempre

Maybe your kid slept through his first Thanksgiving. Maybe you adopted him from another country. Or maybe he chose not to observe the holiday last year as some sort of protest, latching on to an activist movement in his youth, only to see the error of his ways and join in the turkey-munching fun this year.

Whatever the case, don’t laugh at how Babies R Us is selling 24-month-old sizes of “My First Thanksgiving shirts, because there must be some people out there who demand such a thing.
