Question by CountessN: Can you remove past information off of your Consumer Profile?
Can a previous employer remove derogatory information off of your consumer profile. My situation is that I took a check for over 300 dollars for a customer purchase and the customer forgot to sign it. I was fired and they put me in a database of some kind so every time I try to find a new job, I have cash register fraud on my background check. Is there a way to take this off of my record? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Nettajay
You really need to clear this up. With internet, everything is forever. I don’t see why a customer not signing a check would be considered a fraud, all someone had to do was call the customer and ask for her signature. Is there something you left out of this story? Anyway, if the store still exist, talk to the store manager and see if you can resolve this issue. If that does not work seek legal help. You do not want this black mark to follow you forever.

Q&A: What is in place to stop consumer-based fraud of goverment issued $40 coupons for Digital Converter Boxes?

Question by Nick: What is in place to stop consumer-based fraud of goverment issued coupons for Digital Converter Boxes?
I’ve been reading about it online and the government says that retailers will only refund the portion that one pays out of his/her pocket, not the coupon amount. Aditionally they state that store credit cannot be given either, just an exchange for another converter box in case the one you bought is defective…

But lets be realizstic here, I have bought things before and misplaced my receipt and Walmart will give me store credit for the whole amount…

Now whats to stop some criminal from using his coupon to purchase a converter box at Walmart for like and then take it back at a later date and claim that he lost his receipt and that he didn’t use a coupon. Is Walmart going to give him store credit?

Conversely, if a customer genuinely bought and paid for a converter box out of pocket (without a coupon) and then decides to switch to cable or satellite instead and wants to take his converter box back but can’t find his receipt, will he be able to get store credit at least?

Best answer:

Answer by sensible_man
Stores are not responsible for your misgivings. Walmart knows all the tricks consumers use. If you buy a box, keep the receipt or pay full price for a new one. I doubt there will be exchanges due to you going to cable. You will need to sell it on your own.

Then, about two consumer complaints to the prosecutor’s office had a similar experience themselves.

Best Buy after the company confirmed that store employees have access to an appearance similar to the official website of the internal website for the price, but the company’s policy has been to provide consumers with the lowest price, unless specifically identified as a price only applies to online buyers.

Connecticut State Consumer Protection Board Xiaojie Li? Farrell said the lawsuit is a warning to companies who conduct business activities should be more transparent. According to Xinhua News Agency

How does Pay Pal get by letting people fraud consumers?

Question by Old School MC: How does Pay Pal get by letting people fraud consumers?
Any one can set up a Pay Pal account in just seconds under a bogus name steal some credit card info send an email to an email that is bogus make a payment with your credit card info and then Pay Pal will send the money out of the country and this bogus person they then shut down the Pay Pal account and open a new bogus account?

Best answer:

Answer by Jim L
I don’t understand how someone can steal your credit card information on Pay Pal. They don’t have access to that information, it is secure. Also, no one should be able to issue a Pay Pal payment on your behalf – unless they know your password. Obviously, you should not give out your password.

Q&A: I need some legal advice on credit card fraud from a major credit card company.?

Question by tinandy: I need some legal advice on credit card fraud from a major credit card company.?
I called in 8 months ago to pay the remaining balance in full and closed the credit card account. The operatot told me to destroy the card and I would get my final statement in the mail. However, they kept billing me, and my wife who mails in all the bills didn’t know I closed the account and kept paying. I called Capital One and asked for credit back for whatever I paid for the last 8 months. They told me to there was nothing they can do to give me credit for something I shouldn’t have been charged for. Can they do that? Isn’t this consumer fraud? What authorities should I seek out for help? Will I need a lawyer for such a small amount?

Best answer:

Answer by Ryah B
Capital One is a bottom feeder of a company. You probably could sue them, but it is probably not worth it. Just learn your lesson – credit cards are snakes & you’ve been bitten. You can report them to the FTC. It might make you feel better, but I can’t promise that it will do any good. Hey, at least you just trashed them on Yahoo! (They totally deserve it, too.)

We live w/ NO credit cards, following Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover”. Please give it a try. If you have NO DEBT, creditors can’t screw you over like that.

Does any one have an article for charity fraud in New Jersey in which a person is convicted of a crime?

Question by Chris: Does any one have an article for charity fraud in New Jersey in which a person is convicted of a crime?
The article has to fit under New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act which states that…

“It shall be an unlawful practice for any person to solicit funds or a contribution of any kind, or to sell or offer for sale any goods, wares, merchandise or services, by telephone or otherwise, where it has been falsely represented by such person or where the consumer has been falsely led to believe that such person is soliciting by or on behalf of any charitable or nonprofit organization, or that a contribution to or purchase from such person shall substantially benefit handicapped persons.”

i need help, possible electronic consumer fraud..?

Question by k.6.1: i need help, possible electronic consumer fraud..?
I have purchased a technics turntable on January 31, 2007 and pioneer headphones on Feb. 7, 2007. Total amount was about 0.00. Not a small amount, right? I purchased the turntable through the phone, and headphone through online, both from www.topdjgear.com. It’s been more than a month now, I haven’t got anything from them. Not even a phone call, so I called them about more than 30 times. They usually don’t pick up.. they picked up 3 times out of 30.. and they asked for my name and number and my order number and they said they would call me back.. that was like 3 weeks ago.. and I even sent a e mail.. 2 times.. saying that its been like a month and I don’t hear from you guys and I just want to get a refund.. since it says 100% money back guranteed on their website.
they never replied, and they never called me back.. I just called them and they don’t pick up.. what should I do?? I’m still a student and I worked my buttt off to earn 0.00 and I’m upset and afraid

Best answer:

Answer by mity_33304
best bet- call the police. I’m sure they deal with this all the time. Send them the phone number and website adress. Also, check to make sure your identity hasn’t been stolen- if you used your credit card to pay and it all is a scam, they might take more than 0 dollars from you.
To aviod this in the future, try using a bigger brand name store- like Best Buy or Guitar Center.

I hope you get your headphones or turnable/ money back.
