Parts of southern Colorado have been hit by hail this summer. Subsequently, people need their roofs repaired. It’s not a surprise that of the top 25 companies that received inquiries during the month of July, 2010, 15 of the companies were roofers.

Along with the need for roofers has come an onslaught of new roofing companies. With the economy down, people are scrambling for work — some in not the most acceptable ways. Consumers have called reporting strangers are climbing on roofs without permission and taking pictures of roofs. We are assuming that they are looking for damage to give “leads” to roofing companies.

Since T-lock roofs are no longer being manufactured, if this type of roof needs to be repaired, it will mean a whole new roof. Finding these roofs could mean a chance to make substantial money.

One roofing company has reported having their company signs stolen. Unscrupulous people are pretending they are this reputable company. Don’t assume the company is okay because they give you a business card of a reputable company. It could be fraudulent. Check the people/company out thoroughly.

Before signing a contact with any roofing company, do your due diligence. Check their company report with the BBB. Verify it is actually the company they say they are. You can always call the company and confirm that the person does work for the company. Check the phone number if you have been approached to do work on your house. Does the number you have been given and the one in the BBB report match? What is the company’s grade? How long have they been in business? What kind of complaints do they have? How many? Are they locally owned? Do they use sub-contractors?

I recently accessed a caller tune on my mobile. Mine is an Airtel connection. The customer care informed me that the caller tune will be activated in 24 hours and Rs 15 will be deducted from my account. However, it’s been 1 week now and my caller tune has not been activated but they have deducted the 15 rupees from my account. I have called the customer care centre and they have informed me that it will be activated soon. But nothing has happened till now. I am now too infuriated with the service of Airtel. I am thinking of filling consumer complaints against their service. They are not careful enough in matters of entertaining their customers. Airtel holds a brand value and should take due care in protecting costumer rights. This approach will taint the image of Airtel. Customer satisfaction and its protection should be the sole concern for the organizations but they do not even give value to this.

If some of the organizations violate certain consumer laws then a customer has every right to protest against it and lodge a consumer complaint. Government has implemented certain consumer protection right, which is the responsibility of the organizations to safeguard it. Customer protection is the rights followed by the consumers to protect one’s rights. These rights are recognized by the Government but are not basically implemented.

Many customer protection rights are formulated across the world but they are not implemented. Consumer forum is a connection for communication between different people on matters related to customer complaints. Customers in a consumer forum fill up a form to register their complaints. The complaints are then reviewed and necessary measures are then taken. Thus, consumer complaint helps public comprehend their value as a customer.

If a consumer is offered inferior products, if prices are exorbitant, if drugs are unsafe or worthless, if the consumer is unable to choose on an informed basis, then one should immediately file a consumer complaint.

Consumers are the largest economic group in the country’s economy, affecting and affected by almost every public and private economic decision. But the consumers are also the only important group who were not effectively organised, whose views were not heard. But many a times consumer complaints go unheard, therefore there is a strict need of implementing consumer protection rights. If these rights are not protected then the consumers have every liberty to file complaints against the organization or the person concerned.
